MayorCLLR M.S. YENGWA
(HIS WORSHIP THE MAYOR)

Thank you for visiting our website. It is my profound pleasure to take you through and give background information as to how our municipality came into existence. UMzinyathi District Municipality came into existence in year 2000 after the completion of the democratic process. Before that, it was called UMzinyathi Regional Council.

When the local government sphere was established after the demarcation processes was completed by the Demarcation Board two municipalities emerged, viz; UMzinyathi District Municipality and Amajuba District Municipality. I have been honoured to be entrusted with the position of the Mayor by my political party,  Inkatha Freedom Party,  since then until now.

I have served with distinction and humbleness till today. We have changed lives of our communities under extreme conditions. The topographical situations in our areas do not make it easy for us to supply water and sanitation in uMsinga and Nquthu. To date we have managed, through those difficult conditions, to provide water and sanitation throughout the district. There are backlogs as we speak but through God’s will we are confronting them successfully.

Our district is widely known through battles that had been fought; Impi yase Sandlwana (Battle of Isandlwana), Impi yase Ncome (Battle of Income), and the so called Bhambatha rebellion (uKhandampondo). We pride ourselves to part of the rich history of the Zulu nation where the Zulu Impi triumphant over the British causing the embarrassment to Queen Victoria.

The battles fought taught us that the difference in human races should not make those races enemies but those races should learn to live together being different. Those battles also gave us the experience to work under pressure and deliver the expected results.

I am serving my second term now. I am proud of the level of service we have provided to our people over the past years and we will continue to fight poverty, illiteracy, underdevelopment, unemployment, ill health and many other social ills that face our society.

God Bless you All !
